Within the myriad of Marvel characters and superheroes, Nick Fury is a quite unusual figure: war hero, secret agent, intermediary between human with superhuman abilities and government authorities, guardian of national security, rude fighter with an innate propensity to command. We could define him a “super-soldier with no superpowers”, a kind of humanized Captain America, in whom the ideals of freedom and justice reflect a much more nationalistic spirit than in Steve Rogers and, then, are often pursued with fewer qualms. It is also true that Fury did not appear very often in the rather harmless adventures of the Silver Age of Comics, but his role was almost always critical in the narrative plots: his presence (if any) somehow certified the seriousness of the situation, being the operating chief of SHIELD, a spearhead of the American intelligence. Promoted over the years from the degree of sergeant to that of colonel, the character presently enjoys a much wider popularity: thanks to the recent Hollywood blockbusters, Fury lost much of that mysterious aura (as a perfect spy) which characterized him in the past and also changed his original facial traits, now appearing in the guise of the black Samuel J. Jackson, who impersonates him in ht movies. However, his charisma and his role in the Marvel Universe remained unchanged, acting even by substantial link between the different films dedicated to the various superheroes. This section deals with the Stealth version of the statue, a real jewel by Bowen Design, highly rated on the market and appreciated by collectors. Sculpted by William Paquet and released in 2007 in only 300 samples, this statue differs from the most common “Classic” variant (produced in 1000 pieces) for the presence of a submachine gun with a more compact size and, above all, the numerous black belts and bands scattered throughout the body, aimed at sustaining military pouches and holsters of weapons. This color gets along with the amazing blue-night coloring of the costume, thus creating a much more natural and magnetic contrast compared to the white used in the Classic version. The sculpt is excellent, with an imposing physique and extremely accurate, well defined muscles, especially on legs and arms. But the real strength of the piece is the coloring: each muscle contour is emphasized by darker hues and enhanced by the background, vaguely metallic blue tone. The face is spectacular, very faithful to the somatic traits of the original Comics: it is characterized by the classic black patch over the left eye, the white hair at the temples and a just sketched beard, here painted in a masterful way. The large automatic weapons that the character wields with great ease are beautiful and exhibit a perfect metallic appearance. The circular base is simple and offers a nice visual impact thanks to the stylized effigy of SHIELD. Finally, a real touch of class (although very delicate) is represented by the quintessential cigar leaning to the side of the mouth! Regardless of the relevance of the character and any possible fondness for him, this Stealth Version is no doubt a top-class piece of great quality and an awesome collectible, as also demonstrated by its (often prohibitive) market quotations: a real pearl of the Bowen catalogue, equipped with a great figurative appeal.
